According to the provincial Transport Ministry, the head-on collision resulted in this horrific accident and the deceased have been taken to Vryheid Mortuary. Ten other passengers, who have been seriously injured, have been taken to various local hospitals. Provincial Transport Departmental Spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, says the deceased were reportedly political party supporters.

"Twelve people have died from a horrific accident involving a bus and a truck. The truck struck a bus on the side resulting in fatalities. The government will be interacting with the leader of a political party  following the reports that some of the victims and those who are in hospitals, belong to a political party," Sibiya said.
