SA government has not confiscated any land: President

Date: Feb 3, 2025

The South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa says he looks forward to engaging with his United States (US) counterpart President Donald Trump over the land reform policy and issues of bilateral interest.

This comes after a post by Trump on social media, accusing SA of confiscating land from certain people and threatening that the US will cut off all future funding.

In a statement from the Presidency,  Ramaphosa says the SA government has not confiscated any land and that the country is a constitutional democracy that is rooted in the rule of law, justice and equality.

He adds that the recently adopted Expropriation Act is not a confiscation instrument, but a constitutionally mandated legal process that ensures public access to land in an equitable and just manner as guided by the Constitution.
