SA road management urge religious leaders to preach about Easter safety

Date: Apr 11, 2025

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) in South Africa (SA) has urged religious leaders to also preach about road safety during the Easter holidays.

Many people will travel to various holiday destinations and others to pilgrimages.

RTMC statistics show that a total of 335 fatalities were recorded during 2024 Easter weekend compared to 252 in the same period in 2023.

RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane says a crash-free Easter weekend is achievable if all drivers commit to obeying road traffic laws.

"With traffic expected to peak in the coming days, when people will be traveling for pilgrimages and to various estate destinations, religious leaders are being called upon to include messages of road safety in their sermons this weekend.
This is to encourage congregants to obey the rules of the road, and to travel safely and reach their destinations and places of us of pilgrimage safely."
