Protesters have been voicing their demands for President Faure Gnassingbe to step down, criticising the longstanding rule of his family, which has governed Togo since 1967.
The unrest began on Thursday after Gnassingbe was appointed President of the Council of Ministers, a powerful position without a fixed term limit. This move has intensified fears over the consolidation of power and sparked widespread anger.
Security forces responded with arrests, detaining dozens of demonstrators amid the escalating tensions.
