Critics have warned that this approach risks further entrenching divisions caused by the ongoing civil conflict. Local media reports indicate that the Rapid Support Forces, the army’s rival faction controlling separate territories, are considering holding their own exams in the regions they govern.
The Sudanese government has yet to provide details on how many eligible candidates may miss the official tests. However, in December last year, when students sat the 2024 exams, it is believed that more than 60% of pupils were unable to participate, underscoring the severe disruption to education caused by the war.
