Among those who will be sworn in is a South African Professor of Law Dire Tladi. Professor Tladi explains the fuctions of the court.

“The court is based in the Hague and its functions is described in a UN charter, the principal organ judiciary of the United Nations (UN) organisation.

But its primary function is really to it was all disputes with members states concerning international law.

So if there was any dispute, it doesn't matter what the subject matter of the dispute it, whether the dispute is in governmental issues, human rights laws into boundaries, who owns what territory, the law of the sea as long as is a dispute between the states, the function of the court is to resolve those disputes.”
