The parliamentary elections that took place on Friday did not allow any political parties to participate, only individuals.
The final results are expected to be released in the next few days. More than 580 000 voters were registered for the elections, but some observers doubt that they will bring any significant change to the political situation in the country.
The leader of the People's United Democratic Movement, Mlungisi Makhanya, said that taking part in the elections would be a betrayal of the sacrifices made by many Swazis who protested against the monarchy in June 2021. The protests were met with violence and repression, resulting in several deaths and arrests.
