DRC calls in Ugandan Ambassador after sudden border reopening

Date: Jul 14, 2025

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has called Uganda’s Ambassador for discussions following the unexpected reopening of the Bunagana and Ishasha border crossings on Thursday, July 10.

Ugandan authorities reopened these borders without informing Kinshasa beforehand, raising concerns within the DRC government.

Speaking from Kampala journalist Mike Arereng, explained that this action has stirred diplomatic tensions between the two neighbours. Kinshasa is seeking explanations from Uganda regarding the decision to reopen the borders without prior consultation.

These border points in eastern DRC have long been sensitive areas, with past disputes often focusing on security and trade.
