“SA children addicted to online explicit sexual content”

Date: Jan 15, 2025

Research by the non-profit organisation, the National Centre for Child Protection indicates that South African children are addicted to watching explicit sexual content online.

The organisation says the unsupervised use of cellphones plays a large role in the early sexualisation of children. The organisation's Chief Executive Officer is Danie Van Loggerenberg, “I've been in Child Protection for the last 15 years.

So what I've been doing is we've gone to schools, we've had educational talks with children and then at the same time we've asked them questions,  questions that they've not been asked before.

We got very concerned when we realised that our children do have access at a very young age to all these different kinds of social media apps and also to the Internet in full.

So then they hear different phrases, different terms and then go on to the Internet search for those terms because curious and that's exactly, unfortunately, we get a lot of children caught up in these kind of things.”
