The allegations, if not attended to, could affect the integrity of the security services. The media briefing by the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has caused a stir.
Ramaphosa was out of the country at the time, attending the BRICS summit in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. While in Brazil, the President engaged members of the media and said Mkhwanazi’s allegations are serious.
“It has to do with the security of our people but it also has to do with our adherence with the rule of the law. Those who have done wrong should be dealt with and should be dealt with thoroughly in terms of the constitution and in terms of our laws,” Ramaphosa.
