This concerning trend was a key focus at a recent conference held at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research International Convention Centre in Pretoria, SA. The event, organised in collaboration with the SA Police Service and Interpol, aimed to discuss strategies to combat this growing threat.
Cybercrime has become one of the most widespread forms of offences worldwide, targeting critical industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and telecommunications. The National Head for HAWKS, Godfrey Lebeya, expressed deep concern over the innovative methods criminals are using to deceive their victims.
"In Africa, more than 3000 cybercrimes occur per week, and you can imagine that some of them are happening in SA. We are worried about that, as we have indicated that there is a new way of committing this type of offence. But each crime that is committed is worrying us," Lebeya stated.
