French President, Emmanuel Macron, has arrived in Kenya where he is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta as part of his East African tour.

His visit to Kenya is the first by a sitting French Head of State since Kenya's 1963 independence.
On Monday Macron was in Djibouti where he visited  French forces based there. He later headed to Ethiopia where he held talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and visited the historic rock-hewn churches of Lalibela in the Amhara region of northern Ethiopia pledging support towards the restoration of the churches.

The French presidency says Macron is committed to creating "a new relationship with Africa" during the tour that will also see him visit Rwanda.
