Tourism in Mozambique's Gaza province hit hard by election protests

Date: Dec 17, 2024

Gaza province in southern Mozambique has reported over 13 000 tourism bookings cancelled due to violent demonstrations contesting the October 9th election results.

The protests, which have been marked by clashes between demonstrators and security forces, have created an unstable environment, deterring tourists from visiting the region.

DorcĂdio Mavie, a technician from the Directorate of Culture and Tourism in Gaza, warned that these cancellations could impact the payment of salaries at tourist resorts.

Tourists are urged to postpone their trips instead of cancelling to help protect the livelihoods of thousands of tourism workers and their families.
