SA Ministers to give update on tariff talks as SA faces 30 percent US trade duties

Date: Aug 4, 2025

South African (SA) Ministers responsible for Trade, Industry and Competition, and International Relations are expected to provide a crucial update this Monday.

The update will focus on ongoing efforts to address the 30% tariffs imposed by the United States (US) on certain SA exports.

The update comes amid growing concern over the economic impact of the tariffs, which have raised fears about the competitiveness of SA goods in international markets.

Government has reiterated its commitment to continued negotiations with Washington, aiming to secure a deal that benefits both nations and helps shield exporters from further losses.

“We are committed to continue negotiating with the US to reach a mutually beneficial deal and avoid a situation where SA exports become uncompetitive in global trade,” said Trade, Industry and Competition Spokesperson Kaamil Alli. “We’re also engaging with other countries that have faced or are currently facing similar trade challenges.”

A dedicated support desk has been set up to assist exporters affected by the tariffs, providing real-time updates and guidance as discussions progress.
