She spoke at the official launch of two robotic labs at two of the highest-performing schools in the Eastern Cape province yesterday. Soqhayisa Secondary and Cingani High Schools in Motherwell, Gqeberha, are beneficiaries of a private stakeholder's investment.
Mhaule highlighted that the launch is part of an initiative aimed at encouraging learners to take up subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Computer Science.
"It's a foundation, it's the first brick laying to what we envisage as the Department of Basic Education. Remember, we have been given the responsibility to respond to the skills of the changing world. So we cannot do things the same old way and expect different results. These children are not going to operate like we are operating now. They are operating in a world of technology. So they must start with that foundation at this level," Mhaule said.
