International Construction Law Conference explores solutions to industry challenges

Date: Apr 8, 2025

The two-day International Construction Law Association conference, currently underway in Cape Town, has brought together industry leaders and experts to discuss pressing issues in the construction sector.

Attendees view the event as a valuable opportunity for networking and exploring ways to leverage the international market.

Key topics under discussion include the stalling of building projects, a challenge that has plagued the industry globally. Among the participants is HKA International, a global consultancy firm specialising in risk mitigation and dispute resolution within the construction sector.

Tim Harwin, a partner at HKA International, shared insights into the firm's contributions to the conference.

"The topics we're addressing include construction disputes and delays. My colleagues will present a software tool we have, which provides data and information about these disputes. We'll share insights from our Crux Insights report, which highlights the main issues in Africa compared to the rest of the world," Harwin explained.

He added that his presentation would focus on methods to analyse and resolve construction delays, offering practical solutions to mitigate their impact on projects. "We're going to speak about how to deal with delays on construction projects and the methods you can use to analyse them and resolve them," Harwin said.
