Now in its fifth round, the NHIES remains the country’s main source of data on household income and spending. The results are expected to guide strategies for reducing poverty and addressing inequality, while also helping the government allocate resources more effectively.
Alex Shimuafeni, the NSA’s Statistician-General and Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the importance of the survey in shaping Namibia’s economic outlook.
“This survey is key to understanding how Namibians earn and spend their income. It allows us to track changes in living conditions and provides a foundation for decisions that impact social and economic policies,” he said.
The NSA has urged selected households across the country to cooperate with fieldworkers to ensure the data accurately reflects the diverse realities of Namibian communities.
The NHIES is conducted periodically and plays a vital role in producing poverty and inequality indicators that inform national priorities, including budget planning and social welfare initiatives.
