SA opposition EFF accuse government of mismanaging funds

South Africa’s (SA) opposition party Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has accused Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau of making the department a cash cow for the African National Congress (ANC).

The EFF says Tau has appointed ANC loyalists to the board of the Industrial Development Corporation who lack industrial experience.

In addition the party has questioned the awarding of the Lottery Licence to Sizekhaya Holdings.

The party says its warnings against this appointment, were ignored.

Tau was kept mum about the scandal surrounding the awarding of the Lottery Licence during his speech.

EFF Member of Parliament Chumani Matiwane, "It has only been one year of the government of national unity but the Department of Trade and Industry has marred by scandals at the behest of the minister which makes us doubt that this department can be trusted.

It began with the 4th National Lottery Licence, a multi-billion of rand tender. The EFF cautioned against awarding the tender to politically exposed individuals in a manner that will violate the National Lotteries Act our calls have not been heeded."
