This is as inbound tourism is on the increase following a slump in numbers due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Ramaphosa made the comments in his weekly newsletter today.
He adds that the Government of National Unity has identified the growth of tourism as a vital part of job creation.
Ramaphosa has described SA's domestic tourism as the backbone of the tourism economy. In January and July last year, South Africans took over 21 million trips to explore their country. And in 2023, SA recorded around 8.5 million international tourist arrivals amounting to over R95 billion ($4 945 billion).
Ramaphosa says that the government is scaling up on tourism promotion strategies that will ensure that tourism figures return to pre-pandemic levels.
He adds that the government will use the upcoming G20 summit to profile and actively promote South African tourism.
He adds that by working together government, business and communities can ensure that SA's natural splendour becomes a driver of economic growth.
