Malema argues that Godongwana lacks the authority to overturn the decision, as the VAT hike was passed in Parliament.
Godongwana recently declared his intention to reverse the VAT increase, which was set to take effect on the first of next month. However, Malema insists that such a reversal requires a formal motion in Parliament to nullify the decision.
Malema stated, "That letter is just for passing time because when something is passed in Parliament, government cannot write a letter to withdraw what was already passed because of what we call separation of powers. They must go back to where it was passed and say they are taking a motion of withdrawing the approval of the budget fiscal policy."
