The economic hub's budget has a strong focus on strengthening healthcare services, upgrading infrastructure, and addressing critical health priorities across the province.
Speaking at a post-budget briefing at the Gauteng Legislature in Johannesburg on Wednesday, Health Member of the Executive Council (MEC) Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko outlined key areas where the funds will be channelled, including maternal and child healthcare, expanded mental health services, and outreach programmes for HIV and tuberculosis.
“This budget is very important in its impact on delivery. The allocation will strengthen our provincial health system, advance universal access, and ensure that dignity and care remain central to our service,” said Nkomo-Ralehoko.
She emphasised the need for collaboration between government, healthcare workers and communities to ensure that every Rand works for the people of Gauteng.
Among the department’s top priorities is improving health infrastructure delivery, which has long been a point of concern due to ageing facilities and rising patient demand. The MEC also pointed to efforts aimed at improving service quality in public hospitals and clinics, particularly in underserved areas.
