Ambani African hopes to bring in new dawn for indigenous language preservation through technology

Date: Aug 8, 2024

Ambani Africa, an ed-tech startup, has unveiled an online application named "Ambani," meaning "speak" in Tshivenda.

The platform is designed to bolster the communication skills and educational growth of young learners in their mother tongues.

The app aims to be hope for the preservation of indigenous languages, offering an array of interactive features such as games, videos, digital books, and comprehensive lessons available in English and more than 15 local and international languages, including Zulu, Swahili, Yoruba, French, and Spanish.

Ambani's approach is to make learning enjoyable and accessible, thereby encouraging students to embrace their cultural roots while gaining proficiency in multiple languages.

Mukundi Lambani, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ambani Africa, was inspired to develop the app after recognising a concerning trend: children's fluency in English overshadowing their ability to speak their native languages.

This insight, gained from parental feedback, propelled Lambani to create a solution that not only addresses this linguistic imbalance but also enriches the educational landscape of South Africa.

Ambani Africa's mission extends beyond mere language learning; it is a cultural revival that promises to empower the next generation with the tools to thrive in a multilingual world.
