'SA must tackle tax evasion to mobilise domestic resources'

Date: Jun 12, 2025

Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Maropene Ramokgopa, says South Africa (SA) must address tax evasion and other financial flow impediments in order to mobilise domestic resources effectively.

Ramokgopa was delivering a keynote address at a G20 engagement hosted by Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley, Northern Cape. The event brought together civil society, government, and academics to reflect on progress towards Vision 2030 and the National Development Plan. She also expressed concern about government’s limited progress in achieving key national goals.

"For us to be able to mobilise resources domestically, we need to deal with the issues of tax evasion and any other things that impact the financial flow. We are also discussing the issue of strengthening and making sure that the social protection of social flaws must be addressed," said Ramokgopa.
