Speaking at a career expo held in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, Macpherson said government is committed to positioning SA as a construction and infrastructure hub, with a particular focus on fighting youth unemployment and driving inclusive economic growth.
“There are opportunities available for both skilled and unskilled individuals,” Macpherson said. “These initiatives can help young people find employment and restore a sense of dignity for themselves and their families.”
Macpherson added that the government’s infrastructure pipeline is geared towards long-term development and skills-building, and that young South Africans should be encouraged by the prospects ahead.
“We want to instil hope. Things can improve, and as government, we have a responsibility to support and guide the youth towards a better future,” he said.
The department’s youth-focused outreach forms part of a broader plan to boost job creation and economic transformation through large-scale infrastructure projects across the country.
