This initiative is expected to make it easier for companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to access both local and international markets.
Dr Wisely Phiri, President of MCCCI, spoke about the importance of modernising trade processes. He noted, “Our main goal is to support our members, particularly exporters, to expand their reach beyond Malawi. Whether within the SADC region or further, we want to simplify their access to global markets.” The new platform, which integrates with critical organisations like the Malawi Revenue Authority and the National Registration Bureau, streamlines processes and reduces the time needed to secure essential documents such as certificates of origin.
Where it used to take several days to process such documents, the digital system now allows them to be issued within a day. This digital transformation not only expedites service but also enhances trust by ensuring business verification and minimising online fraud.
The platform also features a marketplace where SMEs can showcase their products, allowing them to compete with larger corporations. By lowering the costs of doing business, it helps SMEs broaden their reach to a global customer base.
While the platform is available to all sectors, it is anticipated that agriculture, tourism, and mining, which are supported by Malawi’s government strategy, will benefit significantly. Phiri concluded that this new digital approach will help businesses thrive in today’s increasingly interconnected world.
