His briefing comes in the wake of power utility Eskom’s announcement that it would implement stage two rolling blackouts during evening peak periods.
According to Energy and Electricity Spokesperson Tsakane Khambane, the ongoing power constraints are a result of delayed maintenance on generation units, which has hindered the return of critical capacity to the grid.
“This follows Eskom’s implementation of stage 2 load shedding due to capacity challenges. These include delays in returning generation units from maintenance, impacting our power supply,” Khambane stated.
Eskom’s load shedding measures, aimed at stabilising the grid amid persistent supply challenges, have continued to disrupt daily life and economic activities across the country.
