This initiative is part of an expanding partnership aimed at fostering economic progress.
The collaboration between the JSE and the government also explores other potential areas of cooperation, including the establishment of a township stock exchange and investment in the carbon market.
These initiatives are expected to create new opportunities for economic participation and environmental sustainability.
Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation in the Presidency, Maropene Ramokgopa, attended a pivotal meeting at the JSE where the focus was on potential public-private partnerships in policy development.
Ramokgopa highlighted the transformative nature of the proposed bill currently in parliament, which aims to enable the listing of SOEs.
"Before, it used to be that SOEs were just government-controlled and governed, but now that we are coming up with a bill that is already in parliament, we are hoping that by the end of February, the last leg of public participation is finalised. That would allow us to start saying that SOEs can be listed, where before they were not part of that. So, the process of ensuring that our SOEs are based on market orientation has already started, and it's for this reason that we came here as well. They are going to assist us in coming up with policy frameworks that will allow us to do a better job," Ramokgopa stated.
