Earlier, the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) said problems at the airport this month did not indicate that it was not prepared for the festive season.
A systems failure led to problems with the fuel bypass line, causing delays at passport control processing points.
Some flights were delayed and others cancelled, inconveniencing thousands of passengers.
ACSA Chief Executive Officer Mpumi Mpofu says, “Multiple stakeholders at the airport will manage the situation. We have a period between January the second and the 15th again with an increasing number of passengers as they return to their homes from their holiday destinations. It’s not as high as the December one but again it’s more gradual but we have clear projections for each day, each hour. We have deployed appropriate members of staff of ACSA security and we’ll bring additional systems on the ground.”
