Zambia eyes stronger tourism ties at Africa Travel Indaba

Date: May 13, 2025

Zambia’s Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, has expressed optimism about the potential of the Africa Travel Indaba to strengthen collaboration among African countries in the tourism sector.

Speaking at the ongoing trade show in Durban, Sikumba said the event offers more than just a platform for showcasing national attractions, it also encourages African nations to work together to elevate the continent’s global tourism appeal.

“This is an important moment for us,” he said. “We’re focusing on regional and continental collaboration. It’s no longer just about promoting Zambia’s destinations but about presenting Africa as a united and diverse tourism offering.”

The Africa Travel Indaba, held annually in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, is the continent’s largest tourism trade fair. It brings together travel industry players from across Africa and the world, providing opportunities to network, build partnerships, and attract investment.

For Zambia, the event is a chance to highlight its growing tourism sector while exploring joint ventures with other African countries.

“As we’ve seen over time, it's crucial to showcase not only our products and services, but also to align them with what the continent has to offer,” Sikumba added.

This year’s Indaba places a strong emphasis on intra-African tourism, aiming to position Africa as a competitive destination in the global travel market.
