Oxfam report paints bleak picture for war torn countries in Africa

Date: Apr 15, 2025

As Sudan's conflict enters its third year, a new Oxfam report shows that the looming rainy season and United States of America (USA) aid cuts, will severely hamper humanitarian efforts, putting many more lives at risk

The report, The Unravelling of the World's Largest Humanitarian Disaster: From the Sahel to the Red Sea,  highlights the human cost of the Sudan conflict. Regional Advocacy Manager at Oxfam,  Elise Nalbandian says the conflict has displaced a historic number of people, “ Over 12,7 million people are out of their homes, a lot of people are internally displaced”, Nalbandian said.

Oxfam says the US' proposals over the future of the State Department, including what remains of US foreign aid, will cause further suffering and have life or death consequences for millions around the world who are already living through dire humanitarian crises

Nalbandian says the humanitarian packages were about saving lives, adding that the cuts will result in deaths, “It’s not just about lives now, it’s also about lives in the future”.
