gainst this backdrop, the upcoming Transport Evolution Africa Forum and Expo 2025 is set to serve as a crucial platform for industry stakeholders to discuss and shape the future of transport and logistics across the continent.
Scheduled to take place from June 17 to 19 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg South Africa (SA), the event is recognised as Africa's largest transport infrastructure, logistics exhibition, and conference.
Originally launched 12 years ago as a port infrastructure show, the event has expanded to encompass all modes of transport, focusing on their interconnectivity.
Joshua Low, of DMG Events SA shed light on the significance of the event.
"One of the key objectives of Transport Evolution Africa is to examine the interlinkages between different transport modes, rail, roads, and ports. We cannot view them in isolation if we want to enhance trade and economic growth across the continent," he explained.
Public-private partnerships (PPPs) have emerged as a key mechanism for improving transport infrastructure.
"In SA, we’ve seen PPPs play a major role, such as with the Durban Port Terminal, where a private company was appointed to manage operations. Similarly, Transnet has recently opened its rail infrastructure to private sector participation," Low noted.
The forum will provide a networking space for industry players to discuss challenges, explore solutions, and foster collaboration.
With global sustainability goals in mind, the event will highlight the role of ESG in shaping the transport sector.
"Despite some backlash against Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies in parts of the world, African businesses are realising the benefits of sustainability, not just as a way to attract investment but also to stay competitive," Low stated.
Studies have shown that companies integrating ESG principles experience improved financial performance and are more attractive to younger job seekers.
With representatives from over 20 countries expected to attend, the forum will address continent-wide issues, which, despite varying in scale, share common themes.
"Through our Chief Executive Officer forums, we engage with transport authorities from across Africa, and we consistently see the same concerns, regional interconnectivity, digitalisation, and sustainability," Lowe highlighted.
