Department Spokesperson Hitekani Magwedze says traders who operate beyond the legally permitted hours risk facing penalties or losing their licences. According to the Limpopo Liquor Regulation, liquor outlets may operate only until 2am Central Africa Time.
“There will be penalties in the form of fees that these people will have to pay. I know that South African Police Service (SAPS) has that function, to enforce these fees that’s why we work closely with them. But also from our end, we also issue out warnings,” said Magwedze.
Inspectors from the department will be working closely with the SAPS to monitor compliance throughout the province. The department says it remains committed to maintaining order and ensuring responsible trading during the holiday season.
