The authorities have attributed the problem to a combination of factors, such as high demand, supply disruptions and smuggling activities along the border with Sudan, which is facing its own instability.
The fuel shortage has sparked protests in some areas, where the police have used tear gas to disperse the angry crowds. The lack of fuel has also affected businesses and worsened the food inflation in the region.
Amina Ehemir Torna, the Director General of Chad's Downstream Sector Regularisation Authority, which oversees the petroleum sector, said the government is working on a solution to the crisis.
