The announcement was made yesterday in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, bringing together government officials, tourism leaders and industry stakeholders.
Speaking to Channel Africa, Thandiwe Mathibela, Global Manager for PR, Communications and Stakeholder Relations at SA Tourism, described the theme as a bold declaration of Africa’s dynamic and growing tourism sector.
“We are showing the world that Africa is not to be overlooked, it is a formidable, united force with vast potential,” she said.
With 26 countries confirmed to exhibit at this year’s event, the Indaba continues to position itself as a proudly Pan-African platform.
“It’s more than a trade show,” Mathibela explained.
“We tackle shared challenges, engage in meaningful dialogue, and strategise together to grow the sector inclusively.”
Intercontinental travel costs, limited access, and cross-border cooperation remain key challenges for African tourism. However, Mathibela noted that the SA government is committed to strengthening ties both within the continent and with international markets like China and India.
Africa’s Travel Indaba is also a powerful platform for small businesses and emerging destinations. Dedicated exhibition spaces will spotlight lesser-known SA tourism offerings, while provincial tourism authorities will support small-medium enterprises to connect with international buyers and media.
Importantly, the event is expected to provide significant economic benefits to Durban and beyond.
“Last year alone, Indaba generated $12.10 million in direct economic activity for the city and created over 1 000 jobs,” Mathibela revealed.
“We’re deliberate about sourcing service providers from across the province, from technical crews to local artists.”
With buyers from 55 countries set to attend, Africa’s Travel Indaba 2025 promises unmatched networking opportunities and global exposure.
“It’s the biggest trade show on the continent, offering a rich variety of products, strong business leads, and a united vision,” said Mathibela.
She concluded, “It’s not just about showcasing Africa, it’s about declaring our ambition and working together to realise it.”
