SA hosts T20 dialogue on Africa’s role in G20

Date: Apr 29, 2025

South Africa’s (SA) Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, is expected to deliver the keynote address at a pivotal policy dialogue that seeks to place African priorities at the heart of global decision-making.

The T20 Africa High-Level Policy Dialogue, held at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research International Convention Centre in Pretoria, is set to run over two days and will focus on strengthening the continent’s agency within the G20.

The event brings together an influential mix of African policymakers, scholars, think tanks, and global partners. With the theme “Strengthening African Agency in the G20 within the Emerging Global Order,” the dialogue aims to ensure that Africa’s development goals are meaningfully reflected in international forums.

The initiative is spearheaded by AUDA-NEPAD’s Africa Policy Bridge Tank Programme, in collaboration with the SA Institute of International Affairs, the Institute for Global Dialogue, and the Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation. Organisers are calling for stronger coordination among African states and institutions to push forward a unified vision on the global stage.

Participants will delve into a broad set of issues ranging from democratic governance, trade reform, and inclusive growth to the digital economy, climate action, and external finance. Central to these discussions is how African voices can shape global policies to reflect regional realities and long-term objectives like Agenda 2063, the African Continental Free Trade Area, and the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
