The call comes after the government announced a $355 000 boost for the tourism sector, aimed at increasing international arrivals and revitalising the industry.
While tourism has rebounded to 82% of pre-pandemic levels, much of the visitor traffic remains concentrated in Cape Town and the Kruger National Park, leaving other regions underutilised despite their rich tourism offerings.
Alan Campbell, Sales and Marketing Director at ANEW Hotels & Resorts, stressed that the government’s investment should be regarded as a starting point rather than a final solution.
“Enhancing access means more direct flights and better connections to key domestic and international markets. That ensures increased tourist arrivals, but this is only the foundation and not the finish line,” Campbell said.
