SA President welcomes Microsoft’s plan to invest billions in SA

President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed software giant Microsoft plan to invest R5,4 billion ($297.65 million) in South Africa (SA).

The world’s biggest software maker made the announcement on Thursday, at the Microsoft SA head office in Johannesburg. 

Ramaphosa delivered the keynote address during the event.

Microsoft SA’s Investment Launch aims to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure in SA to meet the growing demand for Azure services in the Southern African Development Community region.

Ramaphosa has also commended Microsoft’s plans to train one million South Africans in AI skills, machine learning and cybersecurity.

Microsoft has already spent R20,4 billion ($1.12 billion) to set up SA’s first enterprise-grade data centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
