Date: Mar 18, 2025

South Africa's (SA) economic hub, Gauteng Province, has seen its Finance and Economic Development MEC, Lebogang Maile, table a $29.2 billion budget over three years for the Gauteng provincial government.

He made the announcement during his 2025 Budget Speech in the Gauteng Legislature in Johannesburg today.

The Gauteng Education Department received the largest allocation, with more than $3.82 billion earmarked for the 2025/26 financial year. The Health Department followed closely, receiving $3.65 billion for the current financial year.

Maile stated that the total budget is projected to grow at an annual average rate of 3% until the 2027/28 financial year.

“The 2025 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework Budget for the Gauteng Provincial Government that we are tabling today amounts to over half a trillion Rand, $29.2 billion to be precise, over the medium term. It grows at an annual average of 3%, from $9.5 billion in 2025/26 to $9.70 billion in 2026/27, before reaching $10 billion in the 2027/28 financial year,” Maile explained.
