It says more money is being spent on the continent to alleviate the impact of climate change.
South Africa will host the Presidential Climate Resilience Symposium today and President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address.
The theme is “Moving the needle on climate change and just transition”. The gathering will bring together senior government officials, academia, representatives of the private sector and climate experts.
The AfDB’s Akinwumi Adesina said at the COP28 in Dubai last year that they had made more money available for climate change matters. “Today we lose seven to $15 billion a year and if nothing is done very quickly that’s going to rise to $50 billion a year by 2040.
“We are not simply folding our hands, as the AfDB we commit to 40% per year for climate finance. In fact, that is the target we set three years ago. We have exceeded by 44 %.”
