Date: Mar 19, 2025

South Africa's (SA) National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has announced the allocation of $2.6 billion to support students at institutions of higher learning for the 2025 academic year.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Waseem Carrim made the announcement while updating Parliament on NSFAS funding at various institutions, including Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.

Carrim highlighted the breakdown of the funding, noting that $320 million, approximately 15% of the total allocation, has already been disbursed to universities. An additional $41.12 million has been allocated to TVET colleges.

"Just in terms of our budgetary constraints, NSFAS has allocated a combined value of about $2.6 billion for learning in the 2025 academic year," Carrim explained.
