The visit, hosted at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, marks a diplomatic milestone, it is the first time a sitting Austrian head of state has visited SA. It also opens the door to fresh collaboration in sectors ranging from renewable energy and education to arts, waste management, and tourism.
Addressing the media alongside his counterpart, Ramaphosa noted that Austria already maintains a strong commercial footprint in the country.
“SA is Austria’s largest trading partner on the continent. We account for nearly a third of Austria’s total exports to Africa,” he said. “More than 70 Austrian firms are operating here, covering a wide range of industries.”
Ramaphosa said both countries see value in expanding that relationship further. “There’s great potential to grow partnerships in areas like the green economy, manufacturing, infrastructure development and tourism.”
