Letwaba, an Associate in Employment Law at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, told SABC News that the combination of rising inflation, economic uncertainty, and increasing financial demands is pushing many workers in the country into unsustainable debt.
“As SA employees struggle to meet their financial obligations, it begins to take a toll on their mental health,” he explained. “This stress often leads to impaired decision-making, reduced productivity, and declining morale in the workplace.”
Letwaba added that financial stress affects not only individual performance but also overall workplace dynamics, warning that the issue must be addressed more seriously by employers and policymakers alike.
