It says it wants the policy to address electricity tariff increases in order to protect the poor.
Eskom's electricity tariffs for 2025 have increased by an average of 12.74% for direct customers, as of April 1, while the municipal purchases will increase by 11.32% in July.
Committee Chairperson Nonkosi Mvana explains, "Given the problem of affordability of electricity in SA the committee called the minister of electricity to review the electricity pricing policy to reflect SA's dynamics.
The policy is currently being reviewed to align the policy with the broader electricity reforms. One of the objectives of the review is to obtain a balance between competitive imperatives. That is affordable electricity tariff for low consumers."
