SA tackles infrastructure crisis at Public Works, Infrastructure Summit

Date: Apr 1, 2025

South Africa's (SA) deteriorating infrastructure takes the spotlight today at the inaugural Public Works and Infrastructure Summit, held at the prestigious Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

Under the theme "Turning SA into a Construction Site," Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson spearheads the event, which seeks solutions to the challenges undermining national progress.

Aimed at addressing the country's critical infrastructure decay, the summit comes at a time when unreliable facilities have negatively impacted economic growth and investor trust.

Noteworthy attendees include the Auditor-General, Public Protector, Premiers, Members of Executive Councils, and Mayors, highlighting the summit's significance as a collaborative platform to strategise on infrastructure rehabilitation.

Key issues under the microscope include prolonged project delays, maintenance failures, and barriers to investment. Delegates will discuss comprehensive measures to revive infrastructure development in SA. Moreover, the summit promises vital updates on the government's Infrastructure Investment Plan, offering insights into future initiatives.
