This year’s summit, held under the theme of Scaling Africa's Sustainable Future, is centred on harnessing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the European Union’s Global Gateway Strategy.
Delegates from across Africa and Europe are engaging in discussions aimed at strengthening partnerships, improving access to markets, and advancing digital and green economies through SME-led innovation. The summit highlights the role of SMEs and mid-sized companies as critical drivers of inclusive economic growth and job creation.
Nyeko Mathebula, Chief Executive Officer of Procure Africa, emphasised the importance of digital transformation in achieving these goals. Speaking during a panel on digital access and competitiveness, Mathebula noted that many SMEs remain digitally invisible, which limits their potential to scale and compete globally.
“Digitisation is very important especially now that we are a global economy,” said Mathebula.
“To be accessible via digital platforms is very key for all types of businesses. We’ve found that most businesses are not easily accessible digitally through your traditional means like Google search.”
Mathebula added that bridging this digital divide requires solutions tailored to communities and enterprises that are not yet technologically fluent.
“We need to solve this problem for businesses and communities that are not tech-savvy by creating easy-to-use platforms,” he said.
