SA official calls for measures against companies that fail to complete infrastructure projects

Date: May 20, 2025

South Africa's (SA) Limpopo province Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has called for stricter accountability measures against companies contracted by the government.

This is following concerns over incomplete projects that have hindered infrastructure development in the province.

Ramathuba's remarks come ahead of Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s 2025 budget presentation, with infrastructure investment expected to be a focal point.

Ramathuba emphasised the need for a more rigorous vetting process during procurement to ensure that qualified contractors are awarded government projects.

"The focus this time will be on public sector infrastructure. We need our implementing agencies, your Development Bank of Southern Africa, your Independent Development Trust and all that, but also the major role players, the very same Small-Medium and Micro Economics that are complaining that we take forever to pay them. But they also need to come forward; we need the profession itself," she stated.
