This trend was highlighted in the SpendTrend25 report, the third annual collaboration between Discovery Bank and Visa. The report surveyed over 1 000 customers across various cities, including those in the Free State, Gauteng, and Eastern Cape provinces.
Visa Country Manager Lineshree Moodley attributes the rise in digital payment adoption to growing consumer trust in these services. She revealed key findings, stating, "67% of South Africans say they use cash very few times a month to not at all, and 84% of South Africans feel more secure making online payments, particularly when there is two-factor authentication."
The report underscores a significant cultural shift in financial habits, as South Africans increasingly favour the convenience and security offered by digital payment solutions. Businesses across the country are adapting to meet this demand, offering enhanced digital platforms and payment methods to cater to their customers' evolving preferences.
