Women take centre stage at Southern African Transport Conference

Date: Jul 14, 2023

On the last day of the 41st Southern African Transport Conference (SATC) that took place at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria, South Africa, the issue of women in transport was highlighted.

The event has seen a gathering of industry experts, policymakers, researchers and stakeholders from across the transport sector to discuss and devise innovative strategies for rethinking transportation and building resilient systems to meet global standards.

Cassimo Lalgy, owner of Lalgy Transportation, says that its high time women take up the transportation space. “Some women are not confident and not taking up positions in companies, like drivers, metal workers.

“We have 1 300 employees in our company, only 50 are women and not even management, we are just not seeing them, only in specific groups like drivers, mechanics but we need more.”
