Gumbi was updating members of the media on the final day of the expo.
It’s the largest tourism expo in Africa.
This year it had 1 300 exhibitors, interacting with 1 200 buyers from 55 countries worldwide.
Gumbi says the event’s contribution to the city’s economy has increased by almost 6% compared to last year’s event.
He says tourism makes an important contribution to the country’s economy.
“As the province of KZN we are excited that we have once more demonstrated our capacity and expertise in holding a major event like Africa Indaba.
The preliminary figures by SA Tourism indicate that there has been a positive increment, which is a positive one and the economic spin off that were communicated was $26. 6 million and we can assure you that this year that this figure has increased and the increment is around 6%”.
