Speaking on the margins of the African Development Bank Group’s annual meetings in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, Godongwana pointed to a steady decline in international development assistance and growing global trade tensions, particularly involving the United States.
“We’re seeing a drop in overseas development support, and at the same time, trade challenges are mounting due to shifts in the global political climate,” he said. “Africa must begin to rely more on its own resources and institutions to drive development.”
He emphasised the need for stronger partnerships between pan-African financial bodies and national development agencies to confront poverty and improve infrastructure across the continent.
